John M. Guseman, age 81, of Uniontown, passed away Saturday, February 10, 2024 in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 18, 1942 in Uniontown son of the late Arthur P. Guseman and Fay Moore Guseman. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his son, John Michael Guseman; brother, Philip Guseman; father-in-law and mother-in-law, George Matthews and R. Matthews Genelli; brothers-in-law, Rick Anderson, Dick Brashear, and Barry Matthews; step-father-in-law, Alphoneo Genelli; son-in-law, Paul Klausmeyer and sister-in-law, Marilyn Coffman Matthews.
John was a 1960 graduate of Uniontown High School where he was a member of the Red Raider Marching Band that went to Pasadena, CA to march in the 1960 Rose Ball. He attended the University of Arizona for one year. John graduated from Waynesburg College in 1967 with a major in Spanish.
In his early years John worked in his father’s Uniontown Hardware Store. He taught Spanish for one year in the Uniontown School District. In 1969 John was hired by the Department of Justice to be a special agent for the Drug Enforcement Administration. During his time as a
drug agent (1972 – 1975) he and his family traveled to many countries, including Caracas, Venezuela, Aruba, Bonaire, Trinidad, Tobago, Columbia, Ecuador, Surinam and Mexico. The family then moved back to Uniontown and John worked in Pittsburgh. After his retirement from the Drug Enforcement Administration John worked for the FBI as a background investigator for the fingerprinting center in West Virginia. He volunteered with the Uniontown Police Reserve as a Captain. During his retirement John enjoyed woodworking and collecting and restoring O27 gage Lionel trains. He was a member of the Federal Criminal Investigator’s Association, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Train Collectors of America and Theta Chi Fraternity.
Left to cherish John’s memory are his wife of 58 years, Judy Matthews Guseman; daughter, Jennifer Klausmeyer; his beloved grandchildren, whom he dearly loved and looked forward to time spent with them, Eleanor Klausmeyer, Rosie Klausmeyer, Madison Guseman and John Michael Guseman; sisters-in-law, Louise Brashear, Peggy Matthews and Sandy Guseman; former daughter-in-law, Jennifer Brumley and her husband Ray and their children, Ray Brumley and Chase Brumley.
