Lewis (Louie) Edward Mills

Lewis (Louie) Edward Mills

Today we recognize the memory of our son, baby brother, father, uncle, and friend, Lewis (Louie) Edward Mills, so that together we may acknowledge and share both our joy in the gift that his life was to us, and the pain that his passing brings.  In sharing the joy and the pain apart but together, may we lessen the pain and remember more clearly the joy.

Lewis was just 37 years old when he passed away on Tuesday, June 8 at Allegheny General Hospital.  He was born on October 8, 1983 in Mt. Pleasant, PA to Lewis & Linda (Pollard) Mills.  Lewis was preceded in death by his father Lewis Edward Mills, Sr., stepfathers, Isaac L. Hall and Eddie Simms; grandmothers, Ruth E. Ford and Ruth E. Mills; grandfathers, Robert Pollard, Alvin Walker and Robert Ford and his stepbrother Ezra Hall.

Lewis was reared in Uniontown, PA.  He attended Uniontown Area High School.  He was part of the Dads Matter Program.  He loved being with his kids and had a passion for baseball, basketball, hockey, fishing and making oils.  Lewis was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates and Pittsburgh Steelers fan and would attend games when he could.  There were many wonderful aspects to Lewis’s life, and many ways that he touched our lives.  He will be remembered as a loving son, baby brother, a great friend, generous uncle, cousin and loving father.

In all these ways and more, he made our lives richer and fuller.  Now that he has passed away, of course there may lie emptiness, pain, confusion and maybe even anger at death coming to our loved one at 37 years old, but in many ways, the gift of Lewis’s life is still here with us.  Lewis lives on in our memories and stories, and in what all of us remember of him.

He is survived by his children, DaShawn Snyder, Javier Gibson and Ivoryonna Gibson; his mother, Linda Mills-Sims of Uniontown, PA; aunts and uncles, Darlene Pollard of Temple Hills, MD, Roxanne and Kevin Bynum of Wesley Chapel, FL, Tina Brown of Connellsville, PA, John Mills, Sr. of Lemont Furnace, PA and Lavern Mills of Uniontown, PA; sisters, Angel Herron of Washington, PA, Tanya and Tom Andrus of Uniontown, PA, Ruth and Starr Lindsey of Washington, DC, Channelle Mills of Uniontown, PA, Kimberly Mills of Uniontown, PA, Linda and David Coffey of Uniontown, PA Taylor Mills Grove of York, PA and Ieisha Hall of Tampa, FL; nieces and nephews, Akoiju (Dontavius), Krista, Tumara, Alundra, Ontario, Zamir, Marion Jones, Azalya and Antrell Herron, Khalil and Cameron Davis and Donovan Coffey and many more family and friends.

We would like to extend a special Thank You to special friends of Louie, Robert Jumba, Dwayne Dobbins, Tina Mussman and Jennifer Rae for your support during this time.
