Harold E. “Junie” Gerwig, Jr., age 84, of Uniontown, passed away Monday, March 25, 2024. He was born November 18, 1939 in Uniontown, PA son of the late Harold Eugene Gerwig, Sr. and Eleanor F. Hess Gerwig. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughter, Tracie Labree; step-daughter, Nancy Hawthorne and sister, Donna J. Butler.
Harold was a 1957 graduate of Uniontown High School. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church. Harold served in the United States Army. He was a telecommunications expert that served his country as an employee of the Department of State Foreign Service for over 30 years. His employment took him to many countries, including, Paris, Turkey, Germany, Honduras and many others. Harold was a member of the Germany Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his wife.
Left to cherish Harold’s memory are his loving wife of 24 years, Gertrude Dobyns Gerwig; son, Erik Gerwig and his wife Lisa of San Diego, CA; daughter, Kim Cassandra and husband Jon of Ocean City, MD; step son, Donald A. Hawthorne and wife Rene of Crescent City, FL; sister Irene Gerwig of Uniontown; twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the ANDREW D. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORIES, INC., 80 Morgantown St., Uniontown, PA where the family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 2nd from 2 until 4 p.m. and 6 until 8 p.m. Visitation will continue in the funeral home on Wednesday, April 3rd from 10 until 11a.m. followed by a service celebrating Harold’s life at 11:00 AM with Pastor Gary Workman officiating. Interment will be private.
Military honors will be accorded by AMVETS Post #103 of Hopwood.
