Eugene L. Chambers

Eugene L. Chambers, age 85, of Uniontown, passed away October 11, 2024 in his home. He was born January 11, 1939 in Juanita, PA, the son of Earl Chambers, Sr. and Pauline Vincler Chambers.  In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Chambers, Jr. and sister, Frances Tourville.

Gene graduated from Uniontown High School with the Class of 1958, he then enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Gene ran the Chambers Service Station in Uniontown and then was a coal miner at Maple Creek Mine.  He was a member of Saint Therese de Lisieux Roman Catholic Church, the United Mine Workers of America and delivered Meals on Wheels.

Affectionately known as “Mean Gene” due to his chiseled look, rugged demeanor at times, Gene had a huge heart and deeply cared about others’ wellbeing.  He loved to watch his boys and grandchildren play sports.  Gene was a dedicated football and baseball coach for many years, and never passed up an opportunity to coach his boys and their friends, as well as his grandchildren in the field of play or the backyard.   He enjoyed nothing more than the presence of his entire family at gatherings to casually talk sports and life.   Gene is a proud member of the Uniontown High School Hall of Fame for his contributions to the 1957 Red Raider Football undefeated team so in lieu of sending charitable contributions to his family, please donate to the Uniontown Hall of Fame, P.O. Box 11, Hopwood, PA 15445, in his memory.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of fifty-eight years, Barbara A. Shuba Chambers; dedicated sons, Todd Chambers (Marissa) of Uniontown, Scott Chambers (Rosemary) of Pickerington, OH and David Chambers (Heather) of Greensburg; five grandchildren – Grace, Abby, Joe, Christian and Caleb; a sister, Marie Zavatson of Stephens City, VA and sister-in-law, Betty Chambers and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family has entrusted Gene’s arrangements to the Andrew D. Ferguson Funeral Home & Crematories, Inc., 80 Morgantown Street, Uniontown, PA 15401. At Gene’s request, a memorial mass will be held at a later date.
